Jason Derulo – Breathing

To my shame I got this song of the radio, haha I love the irony. BUT! It was playing at the same time on 2 radio stations, kind of balls. It is a good song, the music is fantastic and Jason Derulo’s voice does sound good. Enjoy!

Music Rant EP2 – Radio In Lebanon

I’m not a big fan of listening to the Radio for several reasons. I grew up in Jeddah where the radio wasn’t particularly good, and to this day it’s pretty crap. I haven’t been living there for the past 4 years but every time I end up going back I don’t even bother with the radio. Growing up, there was only one good radio channel, AFN (American Forces Network). It was acceptable back in the day considering the only viable alternative was to splurge money on cassettes that contained only 1 or 2 good songs. But the radio business never picked up in Jeddah, it didn’t cater to all types of music tastes and quite frankly, sucked.

It’s much better here in Lebanon but still isn’t the BEST option there is. I have a problem with radios in that you can’t quite control the music you listen to. Many of you would consider me a moron at this point since not being able to control the music is the whole point of radios. I hear you. But something about not being able to skip a song that I don’t like irks me. The only thing that you can do is switch radio stations, and we don’t have that wide a choice here. We only have 3 main radio stations that I dub “The Big 3″, they are:

  • MixFM
  • Radio One
  • NRJ Lebanon
  • You know what the worst part is? All of them play the same kind of music at the same time, sometimes, they even play the same damn song. HOW ANNOYING IS THAT! There’s no running away -_-

I really don’t want to be hearing cheesy girly music on 3 different radio stations during the afternoon and at the same time, I don’t just want to hear DUM TISS DUM TISS in the middle of the night. Why can’t they offer a wide range of types of music to cater for even MORE people?

It’s really annoying to listen to hard (usually crappy) techno in the middle of the night. Not everyone wants to go clubbing people. Some of us actually have lives outside the club, so why not play some calm music perhaps. I personally love listening to Cafe Del Mar or Buddha Bar on the way back home.

What happened to Radio stations actually defining the music industry? They used to have an instrumental role back in the day, defining what becomes popular and what doesn’t. Now radio stations are just an infinite loop of the same 30-40 songs that have been out for a month!.

What I expect from a radio station is to keep me up to date with the new music that is JUST being released. There are shows where the listeners call in and request songs. There are shows where they countdown the top 20 hits. But is there a show where they splurge all the latest music to come out? And of all genres?

I see radio as the last resort if my iPod is dead and I have no CD’s! Seriously, that sucks! And I’m sure that I’m not the only person who thinks like this. I miss having NEW good music on the radio and thinking to myself: ‘Damn, that’s good!’

Another problem with radio stations, and those from the North of Lebanon (HELLO!) have a tough time getting access to the Big 3. They only get access to Radio One, half the time. Drive towards the Northern Province of Lebanon and as soon as you pass through the Chekka Tunnel you get an eery static with the hope that you’re going to get your wonderful song after you pass through. You see the light, you get excited and OUT of the tunnel. Static. Thank you NRJ and Mix FM. Are you purposefully trying to cripple those in the North. Call me a negligent idiot, I believe the reason for the drop in signal is because there’s a big obstacle in the way called a Mountain. But if people in Switzerland can have radio all over the place, why should one relatively TINY mountain affect the whole North? Just add a signal booster, it’s an investment but you have the 2nd largest city in Lebanon (Whattup Tripoli!) that you aren’t catering for. Aren’t they your customers also?

I do acknowledge that the radio stations in Lebanon are the way they are because that is what the majority of the people want. We have calm radio stations to cater for the calm, we have the frenchy radio stations for the frenchies, the arabic for the Arab fans (I’m not one that’s for sure!) and the BIG 3 for the mainstream music.

I’m not saying that I have the solution to radio stations in Lebanon, and by all mean they are doing a very good job at keeping me entertained in the unfortunate event mentioned above. But I avoid it at all costs and make sure that my iPod never dies, and if it does, I’ve got my iPhone.

My Car Songs, The Ones For The Ladies

If you haven’t figured out yet, I absolutely love listening to music and I’d love nothing more than to find myself a sweet spot of road (Beirut – Tripoli highway) and pump up the tunes and just get absorbed by the moment.

Of course I listen to a fair share of EDM, but this post is going to concentrate on the calm songs that I listen to. The soft rock, the pop music and the lounge music. Inspiration for this post came from a friend who asked me to make her a CD (thanks Lizzy!) and well, here’s what I suggest at the moment (all songs are YouTube linked).

If there are any links that are broken / don’t work / wrong video, just leave a comment so I can fix it. Cheers :)

Flight Facilities Feat. Giselle – Crave You

Continuing with the trend that I’m diversifying my taste in music, because to be frank, I’m starting to get bored with the constant dum dis dum dis of some trance/house songs. It’ll always have a soft spot in my heart and I’ll always pick them over everything else. But change isn’t bad right?

Listen to this song, it’s epic. I love listening to lounge music because it’s the best thing to listen to when you’re winding down after a long day, if you’re pissed off or even better: lounging about.

Giselle’s voice in this song is superb. It sounds SO seductive and I LOVE IT!

(yes, I am aware that it’s a very old song)

    Daddy’s Groove & Little Nancy – It’s Not Right, But It’s Okay

I don’t know where to put this song. I don’t particularly like the original, it doesn’t catch my attention. It sounds too blah and commercial and doesn’t have anything quite special about it. I’m sure though many people will like it.

As for the remixes, the Fred v Grafix Remix is a drum&bass version and has a nice beat to it; it will definitely pump you up.

The Marco V remix (I like this artist) has a very club feel to it with a breakdown that you hear quite often. The build up to the climax was pretty good, but the beat after was “meh”. Maybe in a club it’ll actually sound better.

Last but not least, Richard Dinsdale’s ‘Tanzanite’ Remix is a nice tech-house take on it. But still to be frank, not my thing.

However I do admire the fact that the original song is so flexible! It’s been remixed from a typical house song into several different genres. Kudos for that.

Jack Holiday & Mike Candys – Children

This song is very famous and I’m sure many of you have heard the original by Robert Miles. It just gets remixed time and time and time again! This is just another one of those remixes, it’s not great but it’s not horribly shit either.

My biggest qualm isn’t with the music itself, it’s the boring video! I understand that it’s two girls dressing up and acting like children; however a bit more creativity would have been welcome.

    Press Release

Back in 1995, way ahead of its time, Robert Miles created, what had to become an essential milestone in music history. It’s written in stone that this masterpeace is one of EDMs biggest dance music heritages never ever to be forgotten anymore. Robert was one of the inventors of the so called ‘Dream Dance’ genre, that influenced many of todays music makers and consumers.

A decade and a half later, we from Sirup Music and Wombatmusic are very proud to give this alltime favorite a facelift to make it suit the current stream of dance music. Switzerland’s Electro House team Jack Holiday and Mike Candys are following their past and still current hits ‘Show Me Love’, ‘La Serenissima” and the platinum selling hit record ‘Insomnia’.

The package comes in four different versions. The ‘Original Higher Level Mix’ is a bigroom monster for the main floors. Each a dirty and a steamy mix are further provided by Mike and Jack and last but not least *Christopher S* provides a banging Electro House Remix following his huge hits ‘Star’ and ‘One Day’ (both featuring Max Urban).

Get your hands on this future hit and tell your kids the story of Children.

Music Rant EP1 – Music Sets The Mood!

My love for music goes beyond just showing you what I listen to, I’m going to try and take a more active approach and actually discuss my love for music. Both what I like and what I hate and any crappy experiences with musical fails and the triumphs!

This is going to be the first episode in something that I am going to try and make weekly and your feedback will just reinforce my desire to keep publishing this stuff.

This episode is going to discuss typically about how music can set the mood for any possible situation. Whether it’s a marriage, funeral or you dancing in your living room (I know you’ve done it at some point in your life). Well today I needed a roadtrip’s mood to be set. I always love pairing my two favourite things in the world: Music and Driving. AMEN!

So when I have the chance to do that with friends it makes it so much better and being the perfectionist that I am, I end up thinking beforehand of what music I’m going to play for the occasion. Last time I had a roadtrip, I played some classic oldies from my hey-dey of going to school (3 Doors Down, Puddle of Mud, Creed etc.). However, today I wanted something bit more upbeat. But, never one to stray away from my bad habits, I was lazy and didn’t end up creating a musical list; but that’s what random is for? Plug in my iPod, hit the random button and let’s GO!

Today’s trip wasn’t THAT far, but it still was a good run on the highway to Amchit from Beirut. After lots of fun with my friends in the other car (Grandma!) we missed the exit -_- and had to double up backwards which was painful.

The main focus on this is how music just made it THAT much better than it would’ve been without music. The drive to the restaurant (Mhanna Sur Mer) and backwards was quite serene and would’ve been absolutely quiet if it wasn’t for the music. Here’s a list of some of the songs that played to and back (all songs are linked to YouTube):

    Justin Timberlake – Summer Love
    RHCP – Dani California
Lupe Fiasco Feat. Sarah Green – Letting Go
The Offspring – Pretty Fly (For a White Guy)
    Rank1 – L.E.D. There Be Light
Body Head Bangerz – Can’t Be Touched
    The Grits – Ohh Ahh
Coldplay – Life In Technicolour II
    DJ Mujava – Township Funk
Dan Lacksman’s Alliance – Louxor in Vegas
David Guetta Feat. Kelly Rowland – It’s The Way You Love Me

That’s just a few of the songs that I listened to. Hope everyone’s having a good time as well!

Knaan Feat. Nelly Furtado – Is Anybody Out There (Richard Disndale Remix) [+Original]

The original song and the Dinsdale remix really come from two separate worlds. The original has a message behind it, it’s a beautiful piece of music with meaningful lyrics.

The remix is nonetheless an amazing piece of work, but with a faster beat. It has a different feel and I needn’t say that the two are appropriate for different moments.

I’d play the original if I’m relaxing at home or contemplating about something, it’s that kind of song. The remix deserves to be played while working up towards a bang!

The remix is going to be released late February, so stay tuned.

Side Note: The video clip for the original is genius! I really liked how the lyrics were incorporated into the video clip.

    3Hundreds – Back In Love [+Remixes]

This song is very laid back and I can definitely see it appearing in albums similar to Buddha Bar. Love the lounge/Tech-house feel to it, it’s just so relaxing!

Now the original is all well, but I personally like the Glender remix a bit better. Check out the previews below along with the press release in the full post.
